• Season’s Greetings

  • 21 Dec 20
  • Dear friends and comrades!

As this memorable year - which tested us all - comes to an end, we hope this holiday finds you healthy and safe and also – even if temporarily and partly - free from the capitalist mode of production, so that you can enjoy your surroundings and loved ones.

You might take the time to look at the new online learning platform Ku przestrodze - Watch Out launched by our network’s member organisation Naprzód from Poland and practice your English skills, while refreshing your knowledge on World War II history here. Naprzód's Piotr Lewandowski also designed the graphics of our season's greetings.

The COVID19 pandemic accelerated and magnified all that is wrong with our current world (see Colours of a Journey online exhibition project), but solidarity (see the relaunched site Change4All with a map of solidarity initiatives) remains our strongest weapon in this multiple crisis we are facing.

We have brought together some initiatives for you that are working in support of refugees and migrants and which you might want to support with donations:

    • STAND BY ME LESVOS, founded by locals 2017, is still active on the island with various projects that support the self-organisation of refugees on the island , in and outside the camps.

    • WATCH THE MED – ALARMOPHONE, was initiated in October 2014 by activist networks and civil society actors in Europe and Northern Africa. The project established a self-organised hotline for refugees in distress in the Mediterranean Sea. Alarmophone’s main objective is to offer boat people in distress an additional option to make their SOS more visible. The Alarm Phone documents the situation, informs the coastguards, and, when necessary, mobilises additional rescue support in real time. In this way, the organisation can, at least to a certain extent, put pressure on the responsible rescue entities to avert push-backs and other forms of human-rights violations against refugees and migrants at sea.
