2021 MICAR

International Film Festival

Rivoli Municipal Theater

This year’s edition of the anti-racist international film festival MICAR focuses on decolonisation and memory, to make visible the voices and bodies of those whose memories and visions have been kept in the fringes.

European history of the last centuries is based on a one-sided, racist, anthropocentric, capitalist, patriarchal and heterosexist idea of globalisation and progress, whereas specifically due to the implementation of the welfare state, an illusion of fraternity and equality was created in the West, without the order of power being seriously disputed.

The order that was hitherto recognised starts from the Global North, places it and its lineage at the centre, crushes and erases diversity, distorts its historical presence, confabulates normality and prescribes competitive solutions of happiness and individual success.

This colonial model of society and productivity is in crisis. The pandemic confronts us with the failure of work, money and wealth as the structuring goals of the great purposes of life.

As a society, are we preparing for a new chapter? Is it possible to think of an inclusive, just and sustainable future without knowing who we are in the mirror of history? Without recovering stories and knowledge from other centres and protagonists?

The MICAR film festival is organised by SOS RACISMO and supported by transform! europe.
