transform! europe apoya el Foro Europeo 2020 – un diálogo entre las organizaciones de izquierda, verdes y progresistas que abarcan a partidos políticos, sindicatos y campañas locales que reúne a personas de toda Europa y más allá. El foro de este año se realizará completamente online entre el 8 y 28 de noviembre.
La pandemia del Covid-19 ha golpeado a Europa con toda su fuerza. Cientos de miles de europeos han muerto. Esta crisis ha puesto de manifiesto importantes defectos en nuestros sistemas de salud pública socavados durante años por las políticas de austeridad. Millones de trabajadores se enfrentan ahora a la pobreza y al desempleo.
La reacción de Europa a la crisis ha sido descoordinada y ha carecido de solidaridad. El modelo actual de la Unión Europea de competitividad ha demostrado ser lamentablemente inadecuado para hacer frente a la pandemia, a su impacto económico y a la crisis climática. Los beneficios a corto plazo ya no pueden tener prioridad sobre el futuro de las personas y el planeta.
La pandemia del Covid-19 requiere que cambiemos de rumbo. Necesitamos una Europa comprometida con el desarrollo social y medioambiental sostenible. Una Europa centrada en mejorar la vida de la mayoría, salvar el clima y proteger la biodiversidad.
Lo que comenzó como una crisis sanitaria se ha convertido en una recesión económica mundial, profundizada por el fracaso de la UE para desarrollar una respuesta radical. Este fracaso hace que sea aún más urgente que los progresistas europeos se unan y tracen un camino alternativo para el futuro.
Juntos, podremos oponernos a los viejos remedios de recortes, austeridad y guerra. No permitiremos que los pueblos de Europa paguen, una vez más, por una crisis que no han causado. Al unirnos, compartir nuestras luchas y construir nuevas alianzas, podemos cambiar la dirección de Europa hacia una economía más justa, más verde y hacia una sociedad más equitativa y más justa.
