At the eve of the forthcoming European elections, it is of crucial importance for the Left to tackle the disastrous consequences of the neoliberal management of research and university policies in the EU, as well as to raise awareness about the national resistances throughout the continent and to push for alternatives and proposals at the European level.
The first day will be dedicated to the consequences of the implementation of the Bologna reforms with reports from numerous EU countries and to a discussion on what another university should look like and which alternative process we can propose.
The second day will focus on the effects of the Lisbon and EU 2020 strategies on the national research policies and the resistances to this process. Alternatives in favour of science, society and democracy that could be supported by the Left will also be at the core of the discussions.
This workshop is organized by transform! AKADEMIA Network in cooperation with Espaces Marx, Fundación por la Europa de los Ciudadanos, Fundación de Investigaciones Marxistas and Fundacio l’Alternativa. Support: Group of the European United Left (GUE/NGL) and Party of the European Left (EL).
The AKADEMIA Network is a trans-European platform bringing together European left-wing academics whose common aim is to build a counter hegemonic thinking against neoliberalism. AKADEMIA Network is an initiative of transform! europe.
In the aftermath of the conference, transform! will coordinate the publication of a working paper based on the collective work and contributions.
