  • Appeal
  • Renewing Europe: for a common social and ecological industrial policy

  • 18 Mar 15
  • As the crisis continues and the average EU industrial output remains far below its pre-crisis level, the European Commission's “Jobs, Growth and Investment Package” and the European Central Bank's moves lack of ambition to meet the dramatic challenges the EU is confronted with. SYRIZA has been given a clear mandate to challenge the EU crisis management and to propose a new path for Europe – paving the way for an ecologically sustainable and socially useful new model of development. Initiated by the Member of Bundestag Axel Troost and signed by a wide range economics, trade unionists and politicians from across Europe, this appeal is intended as an input for a debate on this issue in Europe.

  • The death of international development

  • By Jason Hickel | 10 Mar 15
  • The European Union decided to focus on the development in 2015 with the event "2015 European Year of Development". It's a good opportunity to deal with the European Union's external action and its failures. As Jason Hickel wrote in this ‘Development’ has failed to deliver. The reason is that organisations have failed to address the structural drivers of poverty.

  • By James K. Galbraith | 01 Mar 15
  • On 20 February, as news of the Brussels deal came through, Germany claimed victory and it is no surprise that most of the working press bought the claim.
