This book is a co-publication of transform! europe and the Nicos Poulantzas Institute including essays written by academics, economists and scientific advisors, based on the presentations made in the framework of NPI’s Conference held in Athens in December 2013 under the title “The Debt Crisis and the Challenge of Development”.
The essays included in this edition, on the one hand make a critical examination of the current economic situation in the Eurozone, with a particular focus on the countries subject to structural adjustment programs, while on the other consider alternative sets of policies for a development framework for Europe to counter the prolonged stagnation resulting from the ongoing implementation of neoliberal policies. After the Greek elections and the emergence of a widespread solidarity movement throughout Europe the issues raised in this volume are coming again to the fore.
