Das Buch ist eine Sammlung analytischer Beiträge, die ursprünglich auf einer internationalen Konferenz über die europäische Schuldenkrise präsentiert wurden. Diese Konferenz fand im März 2011 in Athen statt, als Kooperation der Europäischen Linken (EL), transform! europe, dem Nicos Poulantzas Instistut und Synaspismos.
Die Beiträge stammen von einer Reihe nahmhafter Wissenschafter_innen und politischer Persönlichkeiten, etwa Riccardo Bellofiore, Nicos Chountis, Yiannis Dragasakis, Daniel Finn, Marica Frangakis, Elisabeth Gauthier, Maria Karamessini, Pierre Laurent, Mariana Mortagua, Tamas Morva, Javier Navascues, Pedro Paez Perez, Kunibert Raffer, Dimitris Sotiropoulos, George Stathakis, Jan Toporowski, Eric Toussaint, Euclid Tsakalotos, Alexis Tsipras, Brigitte Unger, Yanis Varoufakis und Giovanna Vertova. Die Herausgeber_innen Elena Papadopoulou und Gabriel Sakellaridis sind Mitarbeiter_innen des Nicos Poulantzas Instituts in Athen.
Das Buch, dessen Ausgangspunkt Sichten auf die Krise sind, ist in sechs Abschnitte gegliedert: 1. Understanding the European Debt Crisis in a Global Perspective, 2.
