Free Julian Assange – No to U.S. Extradition

The British High Court ruled Julian Assange can be extradited to the United States, where the WikiLeaks founder would face espionage charges for publishing secret US military documents.

We oppose the extradition of Julian Assange: he served the public interest, exposing the war crimes committed in Iraq by the US forces. His extradition represents a threat to freedoms of the press and of investigative journalism.

Assange is accused of violating the Espionage Act of 1917 – for the first time, a journalist has been charged with such allegations. In the US, Assange would face a trial risking up to 175 years in prison.

The Party of the European Left reiterate its solidarity with Julian Assange, its support to the mobilisations in favour of his release and against the decision on his extradition.
