Mrs. Merkel’s Shame - The Banker and the Nazis

In Athens, the interim cabinet of the new Prime Minister, Lucas Papademos, was sworn in after a long dispute on Friday. For the first time since the end of the military dictatorship self-confessed right- extremists and anti-Semites belong to the so-called “government of national salvation”.  The right-extremist LAOS-party will be part of the cabinet with one minister and three vice-ministers. So, this is what it looks like, the team that is to assist Merkel and Sarkozy in pushing through their programme of blood and tears that is to be imposed for the sake of the financial markets on the Greek population.

According to the published list of cabinet members, Socialist Evangelos Venizelos remains Minister of Finance and Vice Prime Minister. Former EU-Commissioner for the Environment, Stavros Dimas from the Conservatives, becomes the new Minister of Foreign Affairs. His party colleague Dimitris Avramopoulos takes over the ministry of defence. He will be assisted by a vice-minister of the extreme Right. 

The most prominent LAOS-representative in the government is Makis Voridis, heading the Ministry for Infrastructure and Traffic. He was the founder of the youth organisation of the Junta of the Colonels and the chairperson of the “Hellenic Front”, which was dissolved in 2005 and hit the headlines for their hunts of migrants in the inner city of <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Athens</st1:city></st1:place>. Internationally, the man drew attention by his joint public appearances with the right extremist French Front National of Jean-Marie Le Pen and the Belgian Vlaams Block.

Voridis’ party colleague Adonis Georgiadis, co-editor of an anti-Semitic pamphlet among others, is the new Deputy Minister for Development and Shipping. 

The Central Council of Jews in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Germany</st1:country-region></st1:place> has sharply criticised this appointment. Politicians of the LAOS-group, “have repeatedly attracted attention by their anti-Semitic comments”, President of the Central Council, Dieter Graumann, said to the media. “That now ministers of this party are allowed to become members of a new cabinet is really very sad”.

Under these circumstances, 17 November, the anniversary of the rebellion of the Greek students of the Athens Polytechnic, which led to a popular uprising, is charged with a double symbolic meaning: on the one hand, as a day of remembrance of the victims in the struggle for democracy and on the other hand as a day of resistance against the dictate of the troika, that is, the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank and the European Commission. 

In many European capitals people will gather in front of the Greek embassies to express their vigilance and their solidarity.

La honte de Mme. Merkel

Le banquier et l’Extrême-Droite.

Aujourd’hui, après plusieurs jours d’âpres discussions, le Gouvernement provisoire du nouveau Premier Ministre Lucas PAPADEMOS vient d’être officialisé. Pour la première fois depuis la fin du régime des Colonels, des nazis notoires et des anti-sémites font partie de ce prétendu « Gouvernement d’Union Nationale ». Le parti d’extrême-droite LAOS sera représenté au gouvernement par un Ministre et trois vice-ministres. Voilà donc le portrait de l’équipe que Merkel et Sarkozy, dans l’intérêt des marchés financiers,  ont chargé de faire subir à la population grecque leur maudit programme de sang et de larmes.

Selon la liste publiée des membres du nouveau gouvernement, le socialiste EVANGELOS VENIZELOS conserverait  son poste de ministre des Finances et vice-premier Ministre. L’ex-commissaire à l’Environnement de l’UE, STAVROS DIMAS, du parti conservateur, devient le nouveau Ministres des Affaires Etrangères. Son compagnon de parti DIMITRIS AVRAMOPOULOS sera Ministre de la Défense. Il sera secondé par un vice-ministre issu de l’extrême-droite.

Le principal représentant du parti LAOS dans le gouvernement est MAKIS VORIDIS (LAOS), à la tête du Ministère des Infrastructures et des Transports. Il a été le fondateur de l’organisation de la Jeunesse de la Junte des Colonels et président de l’organisation de la jeunesse d’extrême-droite « Front Hellénique » dissoute en 2005, qui s’est rendue célèbre par ses chasses aux immigrés dans le centre de la ville d’Athènes. Sur le plan international, l’homme a été remarqué par ses apparitions publiques en compagnie de l’organisation d’extrême-droite française Front National  de Jean-Marie Le Pen,  et du Vlaams Block belge.

Le compagnon de parti de VORIDIS, ADONIS GEORGIADIS, qui est entre autres le co-éditeur d’un pamphlet antisémite,  devient secrétaire d’Etat pour le développement et la marine marchande.

En Allemagne, le Conseil Central Juif a sévèrement critiqué cette nomination. Son Président,  Dieter GRAUMANN a déclaré aux médias : « les politiciens de ce groupement  se sont manifestés plusieurs fois par leurs prises de position antisémites,  que des Ministres de ce parti soient désormais autorisés à entrer dans un nouveau gouvernement est une  très fâcheuse nouvelle».

Dans ces circonstances,  la date du 17 Novembre, anniversaire du soulèvement des étudiants grecs de l’Ecole Polytechnique d’Athènes qui, en 1973,  a conduit  à une insurrection populaire et à la fin de la dictature, prend doublement une valeur symbolique : d’une part celle de la commémoration des victimes de la lutte pour la démocratie, et d’autre part celle d’un jour de résistance contre le diktat de la Troïka  FMI,  BCE, Commission Européenne.

Ce jour-là, dans de nombreuses capitales européennes, les gens se rassembleront devant les ambassades de Grèce pour exprimer leur vigilance et leur solidarité.

Nach tagelangem Streit wurde heute das Übergangskabinett des neuen Ministerpräsidenten Lucas Papademos in Athen vereidigt. Erstmals seit dem Ende der Militärdiktatur gehören der sogenannten „Regierung der nationalen Rettung“ auch bekennende Rechtsextremisten und Antisemiten an. Die rechtsextreme Partei LAOS wird in dem Kabinett mit einem Minister und drei Vizeministern vertreten sein.  So sieht sie also aus, die Mannschaft, die im Auftrag von Merkel und Sarkozy das im Interesse der Finanzmärkte über die griechische Bevölkerung verhängte Blut- und Tränenprogramm durchpeitschen sollen.

Nach der veröffentlichten Kabinettsliste bleibt der Sozialist Evangelos Venizelos Finanzminister und Vizepremier. Der ehemalige EU-Umweltkommissar Stavros Dimas von den Konservativen wird neuer Außenminister. Sein Parteifreund Dimitris Avramopoulos übernimmt das Verteidigungsressort. Ihm zur Seite stehen wird ein von den Rechtsextremisten gestellter Vizeminister sein.

Hauptvertreter von LAOS in der Regierung ist Makis Voridis (LAOS), der das Ministerium für Infrastruktur und Verkehr leitet. Er war Gründer der Jugendorganisation der faschistischen Militärjunta und Vorsitzender der 2005 aufgelösten rechtsextremen Jugendorganisation „Hellenische Front“, die durch Hetzjagden auf MigrantInnen in der Athener Innenstadt von sich reden machte. International auffällig wurde der Mann durch gemeinsame öffentliche Auftritte mit dem rechtsextremen französisichen Front National von Jean-Marie Le Pen und dem belgischen Vlaams Block.

Voridis’ Parteifreund Adonis Georgiadis, der unter anderem Mitherausgeber eines antisemitischen Pamphlets ist, wird Staatssekretär für Entwicklung und die Handelsmarine.

Der Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland hat diese Berufung scharf kritisiert. Politiker der Gruppierung seien "mehrfach durch antisemitische Äußerungen aufgefallen", sagte der Zentralratsvorsitzende Dieter Graumann gegenüber de Medien „Dass jetzt Minister dieser Partei in ein neues Kabinett eintreten dürfen, ist sehr traurig“.

Unter diesen Umständen gewinnt der 17. November, der Jahrestag des Aufstands der griechischen Studenten des Polytechnikum in Athen, der 1973 zu einer Volkserhebunggeführt hatte, und das Ende der Diktatur einleitete, einen doppelten symbolischen Wert: Einerseits den eines Gedenktages an die Opfer des Kampfes um Demokratie und anderseits den eines Tages des Widerstands gegen das Diktat der Troika, das heißt des Internationalen Währungsfonds, der Europäischen Zentralbank und der Europäischen Kommission. 

In vielen europäischen Hauptstädten werden Menschen sich vor den griechischen Botschaften versammeln, um ihre Wachsamkeit und ihre Solidarität und auszudrücken.
