During and after the Financial Crisis of 2007 and 2008 tensions in Europe were rapidly
increasing and aggravating the crisis of the legimity and credibility of the EU. On the one
hand the project subject sto a critical analysis the thesis of an end of the crisis. This is mainly
but not exclusively addressed from a European perspective which now is focussing on the
crisis of the sovereign debt of various European countries. On the other hand we also deal
with the social, political and cultural effects of the crisis and the precarisiation of the lives of
Million people in all European countries. Documentary material on the results of transform!s
workshops and seminars are published regularly in our journal as well as on our web site.
What is the reason of the relative failure (or success) of the Radical Left parties
in various European countries, not only in elections but also in their presence and
effectiveness in society? Are the bad elections results and the weak influence of some
parties due mainly to their bad policies, organizational structure, leadership, national
particularities etc, in which case what these parties have to do is simply to learn from
the experiences of their relatively successful counterparts? Or, alternatively, the relative
success of some parties is only a conjunctural phenomenon and in fact the European
Radical Left in its whole is in front of serious strategic difficulties?
The results of the project will be contained in a Transform publication.
Once a year the European Left and transform! europe organise a Summer
University that gathers young activists and members of parties and social
movements for a multi-day debate on current political and social issues.
Each Summer University deals with a specific topic and promotes the
exchange of information and experiences in the various European countries.
During workshops and seminars the participants discuss policies and
initiatives for the construction of an alternative Europe.
